What does Ich-X kill?
Aquarium Solutions Ich-X SW is a convenient, pre-diluted, formulation of formalin (37% formaldehyde solution) which is universally recognized as an effective medication for the treatment and control of diseases in saltwater aquarium fishes caused by fungi, protozoa, and certain metazoans.
What can I use with Ich-X?
We recommend using an airstone in the aquarium when treating with Ich – X. Commonly used to treat: Ich (Ichthyophthirius multifiliis) Velvet (Gold Dust Disease)
How many days should I use Ich-X?
Repeat treatments at least every 24 hours, but no more often than every 8 hours, depending upon the course of the disease (refer to the Ich-X SW Product Data Sheet.) Treatment should continue for 3 days beyond the visible signs of the disease.
What Ich treatment is safe for invertebrates?
My personal favorite treatment is Hikari Ich X. It is safe for most fish and invertebrates and more gentle than some treatments. Remove any charcoal filtering from your tank before adding any medications.
Can Ich live on invertebrates?
The main take-away is that ich can only live for 84-90 days without a fish to feed on. That means there is a very simple way to quarantine invertebrates. The easiest way to quarantine invertebrates is to keep them in a tank, seperate from your main system, with no fish, for 90 days, or 3 months.
Can Ich affect shrimp?
In general, most parasitic organisms have specific hosts and cannot live on/in other organisms. Just as you won’t get ich from your fish, your shrimp won’t either.
Is Ich treatment safe for crayfish?
Many commercial Ich treatments utilize copper to kill the Ich parasite. This is fine in fish-only aquariums, but copper is toxic to aquatic invertebrates like snails, crabs, shrimp, and crayfish.

Overdosing can harm the fish, and under-dosing may not kill the Ich theronts. Continue treating every other day for 10-14 days. Perform partial water changes on the days between medication dosages. Carefully observe your fish to be sure that the trophonts (white spots) do not recur after treatment.

After collecting shrimps, sterilize water and tools with chlorine at 40 ppm. Store water for at least 7 days before discharging into the environment. Pond equipment and fans must be sprayed with chlorinated water at a concentration of 1,600 ppm or, if possible, immersed in 40 ppm chlorine water for at least 3 days.
